A workshop in Auckland, New Zealand needs a Workshop Technician. The company works in engineering and metal fabrication. The job is hands-on.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read engineering drawings and job specifications and decide materials, sizes, tolerances and assembly needs
  • Coordinate workshop jobs and production order
  • Run CNC and general metal fabrication machines
  • Do fitting and assembly work
  • Complete fabrication to the right specifications
  • Do basic MIG and TIG welding when needed
  • Check and measure finished parts for accuracy
  • Prepare fabricated items and materials for installation on site
  • Make sure site teams get the right parts, fasteners and materials
  • Find and fix fabrication problems before dispatch
  • Talk clearly with workshop and site people
  • Look after workshop equipment and machines
  • Keep the workshop safe, tidy and efficient
  • Keep quality and safety high
  • Visit installation sites sometimes to help with fitting

Requirements & Eligibility

  • You have a strong background in metal fabrication, engineering or workshop work
  • You have used CNC machinery
  • You can read engineering drawings without close supervision
  • You have strong fitting and assembly experience
  • You have coordinated workshop jobs or taken responsibility for them
  • You have basic MIG and TIG welding skills
  • You measure well and notice small details
  • You understand fabrication processes and work order
  • You can use common fabrication machines and engineering tools
  • You solve practical problems well
  • You manage priorities and can work alone
  • You communicate well and work well with a team and care about quality, safety and accurate work
  • Experience with CNC laser cutting, tube laser cutting, press brakes, drilling or grinding equipment will be highly regarded
  • You can start immediately or very soon
