Key Responsibilities
- Keep heavy mobile machines running well, even in tough working conditions
- Check machines often and catch mechanical problems before they become big failures
- Find the cause of faults in engines, hydraulics, transmissions, drivelines and brakes
- Repair equipment and replace components
- Do major component change-outs, rebuilds and overhauls
- Look after underground loaders, haul trucks, drills and other special machines
- Go to breakdowns and make equipment safe and ready to work again
- Do scheduled preventive maintenance as the site requires
- Read technical manuals, drawings and hydraulic schematics to find faults
- Write clear records of repairs, servicing and defects, and tell supervisors about equipment problems
- Do pre-start inspections, follow isolation and permit procedures, and work safely in a high-risk maintenance team
Requirements & Eligibility
- A trade qualification that is recognised, such as Certificate III (or equivalent) in Diesel Fitting, Heavy Vehicle Mechanics, Plant Mechanics or Agricultural Mechanics
- Proven practical experience repairing and maintaining heavy machinery, with a genuine employment history and relevant mechanical duties
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Working knowledge of hydraulics, engines, transmissions, drivelines and braking systems
- Underground mining experience is beneficial but not mandatory
- Experience with Caterpillar, Sandvik or Epiroc equipment is highly regarded
- Heavy-equipment experience from agriculture, earthmoving, civil, quarrying or heavy transport will be considered
- A current driver's licence
- Able to work rostered shifts and adapt to a residential mining environment
- Good communication and teamwork in a crew
- Able to work alone and follow safety procedures
- Willing to learn new machinery and underground mining practices
- Additional mining, confined space, working at heights or first aid qualifications are advantageous
- Willing to complete pre-employment medical and functional assessments, and to give evidence of your qualifications and work experience
