A hospitality venue on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland needs a Sous Chef. You will work next to the Head Chef. You will help run the kitchen, guide the team and keep the food at a good standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help the Head Chef run the kitchen every day
  • Plan kitchen preparation and service so the work flows well
  • Lead the kitchen team in busy periods
  • Supervise staff and give clear tasks to each person
  • Take charge of the kitchen when the Head Chef is away
  • Keep the quality, presentation, flavour and portions of food the same
  • Help plan menus and seasonal food
  • Share ideas for new specials and menu improvements
  • Check stock levels and help with buying and orders to suppliers
  • Help control food costs and reduce waste
  • Make sure food is stored, prepared and handled in the right way
  • Follow HACCP, food safety, hygiene and workplace safety rules
  • Train, guide and mentor newer kitchen staff
  • Check that the kitchen is clean, organised and well kept, including equipment
  • Work well with managers and front-of-house staff

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef, Senior Chef, or a similar senior kitchen professional
  • Formal qualification in Commercial Cookery
  • Strong background in commercial or hospitality kitchens
  • Shown experience leading and supervising kitchen teams
  • Can manage high-volume service with confidence
  • Strong practical knowledge of food preparation and presentation
  • Understanding of HACCP, food hygiene, and food safety requirements
  • Strong organisation and time management
  • Effective communication and leadership skills
  • Stays calm and organised under service pressure
  • Willing to take responsibility and help improve the kitchen all the time
  • Can provide evidence of relevant qualifications and professional experience
  • Australian working rights or eligibility for employer sponsorship
  • Reliable, proactive and hands-on, with a strong commitment to quality and consistency
