Key Responsibilities
- Read the drawings, welding symbols and fabrication specifications
- Plan each job on site from work orders and project needs
- Get the materials, tools and portable equipment ready
- Measure, mark and cut the steel carefully
- Shape, straighten and form steel sections and plates
- Join the steel with bolts and welding
- Place each part safely, with lifting equipment and the rigging crew
- Do tack welds and the final structural welds, with MMAW, GMAW, FCAW and GTAW where needed
- Change existing steelwork by cutting, drilling and welding
- Keep quality high and work safely on busy building sites
Requirements & Eligibility
- Recognised fabrication or boilermaking trade qualification
- Minimum three years of post-trade structural steel experience
- Proven competency in MMAW, GMAW and FCAW welding
- Able to read structural engineering drawings
- Able to read welding specifications
- Current White Card
- Current Working at Heights certification
- Physically capable of on-site fabrication work in demanding conditions
- Current driver's licence and reliable transport
- Australian work rights or eligibility for Skills in Demand (subclass 482) sponsorship
