Key Responsibilities
- Give good mental health nursing and clinical care
- Do full mental health and psychiatric assessments
- Make, use and review a care plan for each patient
- Watch patient progress and write accurate clinical notes
- Give medicines and treatments following clinical guidelines
- Give crisis help and therapeutic support
- Work with psychiatrists, medical officers and other health teams
- Teach and support patients, families and carers, and help plan recovery
- Keep patients safe and follow mental health laws and clinical standards
- Join case reviews, care planning and discharge planning
- Keep professional, ethical standards and protect patient privacy
- Help improve quality of care and keep learning through training
- Care for every patient with kindness, with the person at the centre
Requirements & Eligibility
- Bachelor of Nursing, or an equivalent qualification that is recognised
- A Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration, or eligibility to obtain registration
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in mental health nursing or mental health clinical practice
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric assessment
- Strong knowledge of mental health care principles
- Good understanding of relevant Australian mental health legislation and clinical practice standards
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to work well in a multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Strong clinical decision-making and problem-solving abilities
- Committed to providing high-quality, patient-centred care
- Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing will be highly regarded
