Key Responsibilities
- Lead a small team that looks after the roads
- Make the daily work plan and choose which jobs come first
- Check that both planned and urgent road repairs are going well
- Drive and inspect roads to find damage, hazards and safety risks
- Choose the best fix for each problem you find
- Write down defects and repair details using GPS and a tablet
- Lead the team when an emergency repair is needed
- Check the quality of the work, the crew and the contractors
- Obey all health, safety and traffic management rules
- Keep clients, contractors and other teams informed so the work is finished well
- Be part of the on-call roster, which includes night incidents and animals on the road
- Guide your team with clear, practical help
- Make your own work decisions when you need to
Requirements & Eligibility
- Proven experience in road maintenance or civil construction
- Experience as a roading supervisor or foreman
- Strong knowledge of road building materials and maintenance methods
- Able to lead and organise a small crew, as you have done before
- Good communication and people skills
- Strong skills in planning, organising and making decisions
- Able to work by yourself when things change
- Comfortable with tablets, GPS and basic computer systems
- Experience with AWM or RAMM is highly advantageous
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety, and understanding of traffic management requirements
- Calm and effective in an emergency
- Class 2 New Zealand driver's licence or equivalent
- Relevant international roading experience will be considered
- Able to provide verifiable employment, qualification and experience records
