An HVAC and refrigeration company in Hamilton, New Zealand, needs an experienced HVAC Service Technician. This is a hands-on job. You will service and repair commercial air conditioning and refrigeration, including chillers and central plant. You will check faults, find the cause and fix the problem.

Key Responsibilities
- Service, repair and check commercial air conditioning and refrigeration systems
- Carry out planned and preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment
- Look after central plant chilled water systems and solve their problems
- Work on VRF/VRV systems and on chillers that are cooled by air or by water
- Handle DX equipment and chilled water process cooling
- Diagnose faults in compressors, fan motors and refrigerant circuits, and in the parts around them
- Install HVAC and refrigeration systems, then commission and start them
- Understand construction drawings, technical documents and equipment specifications
- Do copper pipework (ACR) and welding when it is needed
- Test pressure and evacuate systems
- Isolate, disconnect and reconnect electrical supply, but only when authorised
- Adjust and calibrate temperature controls, and use HVAC controls and Building Management System interfaces
- Work out what is wrong and decide on the repair
- Keep high workmanship standards at customer sites
- Obey site safety rules and PPE procedures, and meet workplace Health & Safety standards. Join toolbox meetings and site inductions, and report safety issues
- Be polite with customers, and join the after-hours callout roster
Requirements & Eligibility
- Either a National Certificate in Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning or a National Trade Test Certificate Class III Assistant Tradesperson
- At least 5 years of experience after qualifying, on central plant systems and chillers
- If you do not have the specified qualification, 8+ years of relevant experience may be considered
- Commercial HVAC and refrigeration experience you can demonstrate
- Practical knowledge of chillers, VRF/VRV, DX and chilled water systems
- Strong skills in fault-finding, diagnostics and repair
- Experience with installing, commissioning and starting HVAC and refrigeration systems
- Able to read technical drawings and equipment specifications
- Able to work on your own and take ownership of the jobs you are given
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- A consistent record of professional workmanship, and a commitment to workplace safety and professional site conduct
- Willing to take part in an on-call roster
- Evidence to support your qualifications and relevant employment experience
