A New Zealand business that builds, refurbishes and services cranes and lifting equipment needs a Fitter / Turner and Welder (Crane Technician). It was founded in 2017. You will work in the Christchurch workshop, and sometimes in the field.

The job uses two skills, fitting and turning plus welding. The team is small and close. The company cares about quality work, honest customer relationships and a can-do attitude. The employer is accredited to sponsor workers on the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV).

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and use workshop machines like lathes, mills and drills
  • Make, change and repair precision crane parts and components
  • Weld and fabricate steel and aluminum with certified welding, to refurbish or custom-build cranes
  • Find and fix mechanical faults and breakdowns, and do preventative maintenance on mid-to-high-level lifting systems
  • Follow New Zealand workplace health and safety protocols, engineering standards, and workshop guidelines

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Trade Certificate or NZQA Level 4 equivalent in Mechanical Engineering (Fitting and Turning / Fabrication)
  • A minimum of 5 years of work after qualifying in heavy mechanical engineering, fabrication, or plant maintenance
  • Cranes or hydraulics experience is highly regarded
  • Can read technical drawings and blueprints accurately and with strong skill
  • Excellent at analysing and solving problems
  • Takes a proactive approach to work
  • Legal right to work in New Zealand or willingness to go through the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) process
