Key Responsibilities
- Check farm machines and find mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic faults
- Do servicing, preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs on tractors and farm machinery
- Use special electronic and manufacturer-approved equipment for detailed diagnostics
- Go to customer sites to look into breakdowns and repair machines in the field
- Study technical problems carefully and choose the best repair
- Work on modern tractors, harvesting equipment and specialised agricultural machinery
- Repair safely and efficiently, and keep your workmanship high
- Test the machine after repair to make sure the fault is fixed
- Keep accurate service records, job reports and technical documents
- Tell customers about your findings and advice in a clear way
- Build good working relationships with farmers, contractors and machinery users
- Manage field service jobs well with little supervision
- Work with other technicians and support staff on difficult technical problems
- Keep training to learn more about modern agricultural machinery systems, and take part in the on-call and breakdown response roster when needed
Requirements & Eligibility
- Relevant qualification in Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Automotive Engineering or Heavy Machinery
- NZQF Level 4 or higher qualification, or an equivalent recognised overseas qualification
- Proven practical experience with agricultural tractors or heavy machinery
- Demonstrable ability to diagnose and repair mechanical systems
- Strong fault-finding skills in hydraulic, electrical and electronic systems
- Experience using electronic diagnostic equipment
- Understanding of modern agricultural machinery and electronically controlled systems
- Previous field service experience is highly desirable
- Agricultural machinery dealership experience will be advantageous
- Experience with forage harvesters is an advantage but not mandatory
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Able to work independently where customers are, out in the field
- A professional attitude with strong attention to detail and workmanship
- Reliable about safety, documentation and service standards
- Willingness to take part in ongoing technical training, and an on-call service roster
- Overseas applicants must be able to provide evidence of relevant qualifications and practical experience
