Do you work with drains, pipes or excavators? A civil construction company in Queenstown, New Zealand needs a Drainlayer. It also looks for Drainage Operators, Drainage Labourers and excavator operators. Machine skills and a Class 4 licence are a plus.
The work is different every day. You will help build drainage, wastewater and stormwater systems and do earthworks, roading and general civil work. It is a good fit if you like to learn and solve problems.

Key Responsibilities
- Put in and maintain stormwater and sewer drains
- Build pressure and gravity drainage systems
- Lay pipelines and other civil structures
- Work at wastewater pump stations and treatment plants
- Help install water treatment systems
- Drive 20T excavators safely on civil sites
- Dig, trench, backfill and prepare sites
- Use loaders, compactors and other machines
- Do PE welding when required
- Do approved confined-space work
- Install telecommunications and power utility lines
- Do concrete work and finishing
- Help with landscaping and putting sites back in order
- Understand project needs and finish the work to specification
- Find site problems and help solve them in practical ways
- Keep work moving at the right quality
- Work with operators, drainlayers, supervisors and other site staff
- Follow health, safety and environmental rules
- Take care to reduce harm to the environment and the community, and look after your equipment, work areas and site
Requirements & Eligibility
- Experience in civil construction, drainage or a closely related field
- Practical work as a Drainlayer, Drainage Operator, Excavator Operator or Drainage Labourer
- Proven experience operating construction machinery where it applies
- Current and clean Class 2 driver's licence
- Class 4 licence is an advantage
- WTR endorsement is an advantage
- Experience operating excavators, loaders, compactors or other heavy machinery is an advantage
- Strong practical and technical understanding of construction
- Reliable, with a professional work ethic
- Can adapt to different projects and tasks
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Practical problem-solving
- Focus on safety in all site work and on quality workmanship
- Able to work steadily in a physically hard construction setting
- Candidates must have valid New Zealand work rights or meet the requirements for employer-supported visa sponsorship
