Key Responsibilities
- Prepare CNC machines for precise machining
- Test and improve machining programs before production
- Run CNC milling, turning and multi-axis machines
- Understand engineering drawings, sizes and technical specifications
- Decide the right tooling, workholding and cutting settings
- Make parts to the stated measurements and tolerances
- Measure parts during the process and inspect quality
- Find and fix machining, tooling and setup problems
- Use your own technical judgement on new or difficult jobs
- Do one-off, prototype and low-volume machining
- Machine complex and larger industrial parts
- Machine parts for repair, refurbishment and modification
- Keep your accuracy and workmanship at a steady standard
- Watch the machining process and change settings if needed
- Follow workplace safety, quality and operating procedures
- Finish your assigned work well and on time
- Share practical ideas to improve machining methods, and work well with experienced engineering and workshop teams
Requirements & Eligibility
- Proven experience working as a CNC Machinist
- Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC machines that you can show
- Has worked with CNC milling, turning and/or multi-axis machining
- Can set and prove machining jobs on your own
- Solid background in precision engineering or similar machining work
- Has done one-off, small-batch or high-mix production
- Confident in reading engineering drawings and specifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of tooling, cutting parameters and workholding
- Good understanding of machining tolerances and dimensional accuracy
- Proven practical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, and can make good technical decisions on your own
- Having worked on complex or larger industrial components is advantageous
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, and reliable and safety-focused when machining
- Can work alone and also add value in a team
- Relevant machining trade qualification is advantageous
- Professional experience and employment history must be capable of verification
- Candidates must meet applicable New Zealand employment and sponsorship requirements
