Key Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for steady food quality and good presentation
- Cook, prepare and finish dishes using set recipes and service needs
- Choose and check ingredients for freshness and quality
- Do food preparation, including cleaning, chopping, blending, seasoning, heating and cooling
- Watch cooking times and temperatures
- Prepare food for special diets and food needs
- Organise kitchen work during prep and service
- Guide and help your team members
- Help lead a kitchen team of up to 12 people each day
- Work in different kitchen sections when needed
- Check deliveries and speak up when the quality is not good enough
- Store ingredients correctly
- Watch food supplies, kitchen stock and equipment needs
- Help with buying and talking to suppliers
- Share ideas for new recipes, menus and better dishes
- Keep kitchen processes accurate, using digital systems for accountability and reports
- Watch food use, food costs and kitchen labour
- Tell management about kitchen performance and support a positive team culture
- Keep standards high when the restaurant is busy and when it is quiet, and solve operational problems
- Keep the kitchen clean, hygienic and well kept, and follow food safety rules and workplace procedures
- Help improve kitchen systems and service standards
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 3 years' professional kitchen experience
- Work history in established restaurants, hospitality venues or commercial kitchens
- Proven work in a senior or responsible kitchen role
- A real work history, relevant to the job, that can be checked
- Can show practical cooking and food preparation skills
- Strong knowledge of how professional kitchens work
- Can work confidently in many kitchen sections
- Can coordinate and support other kitchen staff
- Experience supervising or leading a kitchen team is highly desirable
- Good understanding of food quality and presentation
- Knowledge of dietary needs and safe food preparation
- Experience with stock control, inventory and kitchen supplies
- Understanding of food costs and how to work efficiently is advantageous
- Experience helping with menu development or recipe creation is advantageous
- Can stay calm and efficient under pressure during service
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Professional attitude and willingness to take responsibility
- Can work well with suppliers and managers
- Ready to learn the digital systems used for restaurant accountability and reporting
- Fluent English skills in speaking, reading and writing
- Can provide documents that support your qualifications and professional experience, and must meet New Zealand employment and visa requirements that apply
