This Chef job is in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. You will work with the Head Chef in a busy commercial kitchen. Your job is to cook good food, plate it well and keep the kitchen organised.

You will help with grill, pizza, pasta and dessert. You prepare ingredients before service and keep your area clean. When it gets busy, you stay calm and work well with the team. Sometimes you will guide other kitchen staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help the Head Chef run the kitchen every day
  • Prepare, cook and present food to the same good standard each time
  • Show that you can work in different kitchen sections
  • Help with grill, pizza, pasta and dessert preparation
  • Finish prep and mise en place before service
  • Arrange kitchen stations so service runs well
  • Keep food quality, presentation and portion size the same throughout service
  • Work well when the kitchen is busy
  • Keep your work area clean, tidy and ready
  • Follow the food safety, hygiene and kitchen procedures
  • Join the daily kitchen briefing and share what the kitchen needs
  • Work as a team with chefs, kitchen staff and other hospitality staff
  • Guide kitchen staff when needed, and run the kitchen when the Head Chef is away
  • Use your time and resources well during service
  • Behave professionally and look neat, and serve customers politely

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 4 years working as a professional Chef
  • Experience in a similar commercial kitchen
  • Proven hands-on skill in many areas of kitchen production
  • Grill, pizza, pasta and dessert experience is highly regarded
  • A recognised cooking qualification from Australia or overseas, or demonstrable equivalent industry experience
  • A strong understanding of commercial food preparation and service
  • Experience in a high-volume restaurant or hospitality place
  • Able to lead or coordinate kitchen staff when required
  • Strong organisation and time management, and good written and spoken communication
  • A reliable and professional attitude to your work
  • Able to work alone and also help the team
  • A strong commitment to food safety, cleanliness and quality
  • Current Food Safety certification is advantageous
  • Current Safe Food Handling certification is advantageous
  • Applicants must satisfy the relevant requirements for employer sponsorship and DAMA nomination
